 Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 - April 12, 1981), better known as Joe Louis, was an American professional boxer and world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949. Louis is considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Nicknamed the "Bronze Bomber", Lewis helped elevate his boxing rival infamous post-Jack Dempsey era, built himself at a time when the game dominated the sport, and built a reputation as an honest and hardworking boxer. This era lasted 140 consecutive months in which he participated in 26 league matches. It was the twenty-seventh fight against Hazard Charles for the heavyweight title and as such was not included in the fights Louis had during his reign.
